Waste Assessments
Does your place of employment want to incorporate sustainable business practices in the workplace? Reduce its carbon footprint? Save money? If so, the Allen County Solid Waste Management District offers waste assessments free of charge to local businesses, non-profit organizations and governmental agencies. A waste assessment is an on site evaluation of the waste stream and recycling potential of an individual business, industry, institution or organization. A five step process has been developed to assist in the implementation of a waste reduction program in the workplace.
- Step #1 Overview -- This information will give an overview of the process to develop, implement and maintain a waste reduction program.
- Step #2 Waste Assessment Questionnaire -- This questionnaire is designed to assist in obtaining information about current disposal methods, recycling programs and trash contracts. It will help to determine where you are currently and the goals you wish to set in relation to waste reduction.
- Step #3 Submit Waste Assessment Questionnaire for review to the Allen County Solid Waste Management District via fax or mail. Once submitted, we are available to schedule a walk through your facility. This will further assist in tailoring a recycling program to fit your organizations specific needs. This optional service is free of charge and has assisted many local businesses in getting started.
- Step #4 Recommendations -- This information is 5 pages of general waste reduction and recycling recommendations that can be applied to your waste reduction program. For more specific details a walk through your facility is required. In addition, the following posters are available to assist in educating employees about acceptable papers for recycling. - Step # 5 Track Your Results -- The District encourages organizations to be recognized for their waste reduction efforts. Please consider nominating your place of business for an Excellence in Recycling Award.
